Benefits of Belonging to A Union
As a member of Local 1262 you join a group of more than 20,000 people employed in New Jersey and New York State by leading supermarkets like ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Foodtown, Acme and many others. You are also a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union which has more than 1.4 million members in the United States and Canada.
Being a member of a Union means you have a contract with your employer (negotiated for you by Local 1262). Your contract provides many benefits and protections that non-union workers do not enjoy. Your contract contains the terms of employment and the benefits your employer must provide. Your contract also has protections – such as seniority rights and a grievance procedure – that ensure you are treated fairly on the job.
