Next Membership Meeting Monday October, 27 2008
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1262 is New Jersey’s largest local labor union and among the five largest local unions in the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Local 1262 has consistently negotiated pacesetting collective bargaining agreements that have improved working conditions, wages and benefits for our 30,000 members.
First chartered as the Retail Clerks International Association in 1941, today UFCW Local 1262 represents members in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania employed by such giants in the retail food industry as Foodtown, Pathmark, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and others.
Today the retail food and general merchandising industries are facing many challenges, including increased competition from non-union food chains and retailers who do not provide their employees with the same wages and benefits negotiated for our members through their contracts. Local 1262 fights hard to preserve the value and integrity of our union contracts from competition by non-union employers by participating in our region’s political arenas and in grassroots organizations such as WakeUp Wal-Mart.
UFCW Local 1262 is an organization of many faces, yet our 30,000 members speak with one voice. We look forward to reaching out to many more thousands of workers who are seeking to improve their lives and to providing more secure futures for themselves and their families by joining our ranks.
